The United States and Canada exchanged punishing tariffs and countertariffs on passenger vehicle and parts imports to start April. Levies of up to 25 per cent, stacking with U.S. tariffs on key industry inputs steel and aluminum, will upend an industry in which free trade served as the status quo for decades.
