1939: New-vehicle dealerships historically have cited the knowledge and skills of their service technicians to differentiate themselves from their aftermarket competitors. Information with this photograph from General Motors' archives doesn't name the uniformed technician who is working on a 1937 Chevy on the lube rack at Northwest Chevrolet in Detroit. He is described as a "dealership product expert" providing "specialized lubrication." The dealership, which later operated as Joe May Chevrolet, is out of business; a shopping plaza now occupies its site.
