1958: Two decades after it opened in 1938, Jaffarian's Service in Haverhill, Mass., sold Hudson and Rambler vehicles and built what the store's owners called the largest Dunlop Tire dealership in the Northeast. Dealer Tokie Jaffarian, center, and his son, Richard, right, grew dissatisfied with Rambler's quality and signed on with Volvo. In the early 1960s, the Jaffarian family opened one of New England's first Toyota dealerships. Both affiliations continue today. In time, the dealership group added a 6,000-square-foot body shop and became a major parts distributor. Richard Jaffarian's oldest son, Gary, is CEO of the family business. Gary's brother Mark and son Gavin are vice presidents.
