Kia discontinuing Rio subcompact sedan

Kia Rio — Kia’s smallest vehicle, the fourth-generation Rio, was discontinued after the 2023 model year. It shared a fate similar to its Hyundai counterpart, the Accent subcompact sedan, which did not return for the 2023 model year. Kia, like other mass market brands, plans to use crossovers rather than cars as an entry-level gateway for mostly young, first-time buyers.

Kia America's Rio subcompact car will not return for the 2024 model year. It follows the demise of its small Hyundai counterpart, the Accent, discontinued after the 2022 model year.
