Steady ramp-up for Genesis

Genesis started its life a year ago with a handicap: a thin lineup composed of sedans in segments that were unpopular.A new sports sedan will begin to round out that lineup, along with a trio of crossovers due in the next two to four years. Available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the G70 will come with either a 2.0-liter turbo-four, a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 or possibly a hybrid version that also uses a four-cylinder engine. The car will be unveiled this year and is expected to be on sale in the U.S. by early 2018. A coupe iteration will follow, likely for the 2020 model year.G80: This sedan is the workhorse of the Genesis lineup, though that will change with the arrival of the G70. The G80 was freshened for 2018, which included the addition of the Sport model and its 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6. A redesign expected in 2019 will bring a full overhaul to the car's styling to align it with the G70 and subsequent crossover models.G90: Genesis' larger sedan was redesigned for 2017 and offers a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 as a base engine and a 5.0-liter V-8 as the optional powerplant. An eight-speed automatic transmission and rwd are standard, with awd offered as an option. Look for a freshening in 2020.EV: Genesis will launch an all-electric sedan in 2021 with about 310 miles of range on a charge.Subcompact crossover: A five-passenger crossover is likely to roll out in 2020 or 2021. It's expected to offer a 2.0-liter turbo-four and some form of electrification.GV70: Bowing in 2020 will be this compact crossover, which should become Genesis' volume seller. It will ride on the same rwd/awd platform as the G70 sedan and is expected to use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo and an optional 3.3-liter twin-turbo; hybrid or plug-in hybrid versions are possible.GV80: Genesis' first crossover will be this midsize model, due in 2019 as a 2020 model. Expect rounded styling teased on the GV80 Concept from the 2017 New York auto show. Three-row seating, Hyundai's 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 and even a V-8 option are possible. A hydrogen fuel cell or plug-in hybrid version also could happen.
