LOS ANGELES -- Honda got a jump start on the 2015 L.A. Auto Show Tuesday afternoon with the global debut of the redesigned and re-engineered Civic coupe.

The 2016 Civic coupe is a near clone of the concept Honda showed at the New York Auto Show last spring and heads to dealerships in March.

Like the Civic sedan that went on sale this month, the coupe is an effort by Honda to double down on one of its most popular models after the previous generation was criticized for being too frugal.

“Our customers are going to be utterly surprised by what this new coupe delivers in terms of refinement, safety, efficiency and fun-to-drive performance,” Jeff Conrad, vice president of American Honda, said in a statement.
