MagneRide

Company: Delphi Corp.

What it does: Uses an electromagnetic field to change properties of fluid in the suspension control system, adjusting suspension stiffness as driving conditions change

How it changed the industry: It set a new standard, superior in numerous ways to previous valve-based semiactive suspensions, at lower cost.

A smooth ride needs a soft suspension, but crisp handling requires a stiff suspension. Balancing the two needs is a perennial challenge for suspension engineers.
