Walter Owen Bentley

Born: September 16, 1888

Died: August 3, 1971

Major contribution: Founded British luxury brand

The original Bentley Motors lasted just 12 years before it filed for bankruptcy in June 1931. But Walter Owen Bentley's passion for engineering and sportsmanship has remained the core characteristic of the brand. That is why the company founder's initials -- W.O. -- still are used today by true devotees of the marque.
