DETROIT -- Steve Girsky's stint as General Motors' in-house outsider is ending after less than a year.
GM confirmed Thursday that Girsky, 44, a high-profile former Morgan Stanley auto analyst, will leave his post as special adviser to CEO Rick Wagoner and Vice Chairman John Devine.
It was not known what Girsky will do next. Steve Harris, GM vice president for communications, said Girsky will complete a few remaining projects and leave around June 1. Girsky may maintain some relationship with GM after leaving, Harris said.
Girsky joined GM last July after being courted personally by Wagoner and Devine. At the time, Girsky said GM leaders wanted him to provide an "outside perspective inside the company."
Girsky was formerly a managing director at Morgan Stanley and the senior analyst of the Morgan Stanley Global Automotive and Auto Parts Research Team. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he was managing director of PaineWebber's Automotive Group. He had worked earlier as an analyst in GM's treasurer's office.
