OBITUARY: Shirley Young

NEW YORK — Shirley Young, an executive who was instrumental in General Motors' expansion in China through a joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. during the 1990s, died Dec. 26 at age 85. GM hired Young as vice president for consumer market development in 1988 from Grey Strategic Marketing, where as president she consulted the automaker across its operating divisions. She left GM in 1999 to open a consulting firm. She also was a senior adviser to General Motors-Asia Pacific.
