Toyota sticks by its cars but looks for niches to fill

Toyota believes in cars, and it continues to believe in cars even as other automakers flee to the happier consumer hunting grounds of crossovers and SUVs. But the Japanese automaker and its dealers learned a valuable lesson about persistence from their success with the Toyota Tacoma, even while hedging its product bets, says Dan Abel, the incoming chairman of the Toyota National Dealers' Advisory Council.
