Former Dongfeng CEO becomes top regulator in China

BEIJING -- Miao Wei, the former president of Dongfeng Motor Group, on December 25 was made minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which regulates auto manufacturing and many other industries.Miao, 55, previously was vice minister of MIIT. Before serving in the government, he was head of Dongfeng Motor Group, a major state-owned automaker, for eight years until 2005.Miao is an engineer by training. He majored in internal combustion technology at Hefei University of Technology and spent most of his career in the auto industry.
