Dongfeng unveils flagship sedan built on PSA platform

Dongfeng Motor Corp. showcased its new flagship sedan, the Aeolus A9, last week in the central China city of Wuhan.Developed on the platform of the Citroen C5, the vehicle is 5,066 mm (199.5 inches) long, 1,858 mm wide and 1,470 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Its 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is supplied by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co., a 50-50 joint venture between Dongfeng and PSA Peugeot Citroen. The engine is combined with a six-speed automatic transmission provided by Japanese supplier Aisin Seiki Co.The vehicle also shares a production line with the Citroen C5 at Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen's assembly plant in Wuhan.Dongfeng has yet to disclose the car's price.The Aeolus A9 is the second sedan Dongfeng has developed with PSA's technology. In March last year, the state-owned automaker launched sales of the Aeolus L6 compact sedan, which was built on the platform of the Citroen C4. The sedan also is assembled by Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen.Dongfeng, based in Wuhan, is a leading Chinese truckmaker. The company started building passenger vehicles under the Aeolus brand in 2009. Aside from the A9 and L6, Dongfeng's Aeolus-badged product mix includes the S30 and A60 compact sedans, the AX7 crossover and E30L electric car. In January, sales of the Aeolus brand surged 37 percent year on year to 20,557 on strong demand for the AX7.
