DETROIT -- Suburban Collection, of Troy, Mich., the largest dealership group in the state, has acquired Somerset Buick-GMC, CEO David Fischer said Wednesday.
The store has been renamed Suburban Buick-GMC of Troy.
Fischer said the store was acquired from John McMullen and Jack Fowler of Somerset Collection. The deal was finalized Monday, but terms were not disclosed. Jim Bechtell will continue as the store's general manager.
As Suburban takes over the 55,000-square-foot dealership in the Troy Motor Mall, the mall's two Buick operations will be combined. Suburban Cadillac-Buick will become a stand-alone Cadillac store.
"The Buick brand has long been a staple of the Suburban Collection's automotive offerings," Fischer said in a statement. "This acquisition will allow us to offer Buick in a more complementary brand setting with GMC while also affording us the enhanced opportunity to showcase new and upcoming Cadillac products in its own dedicated facility."
Suburban Collection, which has over 50 locations in Michigan, Florida and California, cleared $2.47 billion in revenue last year, according to the Automotive News Data Center. It ranks No. 14 on Automotive News' list of the top 150 dealership groups based in the U.S., with retail sales of 36,785 new vehicles in 2017.
