DETROIT — General Motors has selected Kim Brycz as the new senior vice president of global human resources, filling the hole in leadership left by Jose Tomas last month, who abruptly resigned to pursue other interests after less than eight months in the position.
Her appointment is effective immediately, GM said in a statement Tuesday.
In her previous role as executive director of global product purchasing, Brycz, 56, played an integral role in restructuring relationships with suppliers to expedite innovations, and forming strategic partnerships in GM's supply base.
"Kim brings to the job a strong set of leadership and organizational skills that will help lead our ongoing efforts to transform the company through our people and culture," CEO Mary Barra said in the company statement. "Kim exemplifies the leadership behaviors that are critical to the collective success of the company."
GM expects to name Brycz's successor in purchasing in the near future, a spokesman said.
In 1983, the purchasing veteran joined the company's Cadillac Motor Car Division as an assistant purchaser and has since worked her way through several purchasing positions.
For six weeks, Brycz filled in as interim head of GM purchasing in 2009 during the company's bankruptcy following Bo Andersson's departure.
She was named head of global purchasing for electrical systems, batteries and hybrids in 2010, and later that year, was tasked with overseeing GM's purchases of indirect materials, machinery and equipment.
Automotive News named Brycz one of the 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry in 2015.
