Nissan calls story on Boston dealers 'disappointing, one-sided'

To the editor: Your Dec. 21 story, “In Boston, Nissan's a tough sell to dealers” was a disappointing, one-sided portrayal of our company’s business in the Boston market and beyond.Readers of Automotive News expect far more than gotcha journalism from your talented staff of writers, but unfortunately that is exactly what you delivered with this story.Had you spoken to the many successful Nissan dealers -- as was offered to your publication during the preparation of the story -- you would have been compelled to paint a much more balanced picture of Nissan’s relationship with its dealer body.The hard data behind Nissan’s rise in the U.S. is undeniable. Our company has grown U.S. market share in seven out of the last eight years, a period during which our U.S. sales grew 40+ percent and far outpaced industry growth. This didn’t happen by accident, but rather was the result of setting precise targets and executing a dedicated business plan to reach them.Nissan’s U.S. dealers have been a driving force in our success, and the wide majority of them have benefited greatly from our combined accomplishments -- from improved profitability and throughput to greater customer satisfaction and retention.As a performance managed company, Nissan works hard to support our employees, suppliers and dealers to reach their full potential.
