The newly redesigned GMC Canyon already has a new special edition.
The Canyon Nightfall will be offered on both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive SLE crew cab models and will come in Onyx Black. It will be available in the second quarter of 2015, General Motors said in a statement Thursday.
It will be on the floor at the Detroit auto show next week, a GMC spokesman said. Pricing will be announced closer to the availability date.
The Nightfall package is an addition to standard equipment on the SLE.
The package includes a unique black grille, black assist steps, factory spray-in bedliner, 18-inch multispoke aluminum wheels, a polished exhaust tip, automatic climate control and remote start, GMC said.
GMC stressed that the package allows customers to get all those features at a lower price than if they ordered them separately.
According to GMC, more than 40 percent of the initial orders for the Canyon include at least one selection from the accessory collection that GMC developed for the truck.
While the Nightfall edition is no Denali, GMC’s top trim level, Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC sales and marketing, made it no secret in September that he wants a Denali version of the Canyon.
Aldred has said he wants Denali to account for 25 percent of the brand’s entire mix, up from 20 percent of the 450,901 GMCs sold in 2013.
“I’m going to sell quite a lot of Canyons, so that’s kind of going to halt my progress if the pickup doesn’t eventually get a Denali version,” Aldred told Automotive News during a Canyon media drive.
GMC sold 3,070 Canyons in 2014. They went on sale in September.
