Panasonic invests $30 million in Tesla to manufacture batteries

By selling Zero Emission Vehicle credits earned from the sale of its Roadster in California, Tesla Motors earned $12 million. Large automakers must hit ZEV sales and production targets, but buying credits can give them some flexibility. (ALYSHA WEBB)

TOKYO -- Japanese electronics giant Panasonic Corp. said late Wednesday it invested $30 million in the U.S. electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors Inc. to cooperate on green powertrain development.
