Daimler calls on Japanese unit for hybrid truck technology

Fuso, Daimler’s Japanese unit, has sold a small number of Canter hybrids. But it and a hybrid bus are the only Daimler hybrid trucks using in-house technology.

KAWASAKI, Japan — Lumbering 18-wheelers rarely come to mind when people think of clean, green hybrid vehicles. But Daimler AG is betting big on hybrid trucks and concentrating its global push to develop them not in Germany but in the homeland of the Toyota Prius.
