Subaru Corp. is shuffling executive roles ahead of time in the aftermath of a safety inspection scandal it was embroiled in, Nikkei reported on Wednesday.

Tomomi Nakamura, chairman and CEO of Subaru of America since 2014 and a corporate executive vice president, will take over as Subaru's president after the company's shareholder meeting in June. CEO Yasuyuki Yoshinaga will vacate his role as president to become chairman, the report said.

Nakamura first joined the Subaru organization in 1982, with Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. Over the years he worked in the sales, marketing and planning divisions. Before he took over as head of Subaru of America, he served as corporate vice president and senior general manager for Subaru's global marketing division.

Three of the six internal board members will also step down, including incumbent Chairman Jun Kondo, Nikkei said.

However, Subaru said in a statement that nothing had been decided yet.

The Japanese automaker had earlier vowed to reinvent itself by improving oversight of its final inspections after it revealed in October that uncertified staff had carried out tests of new cars for the domestic market for decades.
