Lincoln expands Chauffeur service to 2nd market

Ford Motor Co.’s Lincoln luxury brand is expanding a recently-launched pilot program that lets users summon a chauffeur -- with the tap of a smartphone button -- to drive them around in their own car.The automaker launched the program, called Lincoln Chauffeur, last month in Miami. Lincoln said Friday that it’s adding San Diego, Calif., to the list of available cities.Clients can also request the chauffeur run errands, such as getting gasoline, groceries or picking up children from school. The service costs $30 an hour.“This service is generating a lot of interest among Lincoln owners,” Eric Cin, Lincoln client services manager, said in a statement. “They’re using it for dinner dates, for doctor appointments; they’re recognizing just how convenient it is to have this option available.”Lincoln Chauffeur is one of a number of initiatives the brand is testing as it attempts to differentiate itself through unique service-based experiences. Last year, the brand became the first luxury make to include pickup and delivery service for all nameplates. Since launching in September, Lincoln says more than 15,000 pickup and deliveries have taken place.It’s also experimenting with a “At-Home Test Drive,” program in Texas where customers can schedule test drives online and have the vehicles brought to them.“For Lincoln, it’s all about the experience,” Cin said.
