The next-generation Volvo XC60 has been spotted by photographers testing in Sweden and, not surprisingly, it looks like its larger sibling, the XC90.
Despite heavy camouflage, key elements of the current Volvo design language are visible, including headlights featuring Thor’s hammer, tall taillights and an overall boxier look, much like the XC90.
The XC60 will use Volvo’s scalable product architecture that is designed for gasoline engines as well as plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains. Currently, it underpins the XC90 and S90.
The current XC60 was introduced in 2008, making it a bit long in the tooth.
While the photos do not include looks at the interior, the XC60 figures to feature Volvo’s touch-and-swipe screen controls. Advanced safety technology such as semiautonomous features and large-animal detection may also trickle down to the XC60. The midsize crossover figures to be an important cog in Volvo’s lineup going forward as sales in that segment continue to remain competitive.
The next-gen XC60 is expected in 2017 or early 2018.
