Nissan said today it will design a 2017 Nissan Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition to ago along with the latest Star Wars movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which arrives in theaters Dec. 16.
All details of the model, including pricing and availability, won’t be shared until the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, the company said in a statement. Nissan did say a Rogue One badge designed by Lucasfilm will have “prominent” placement on the vehicle, which will be available in the U.S. and Canada.
Nissan said the 2017 compact crossover will have more safety technology, including forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Nissan’s first Rogue Hybrid model also will be available for the 2017 model year.
In August, Nissan officially partnered with Lucasfilm in a promotional campaign. Jeremy Tucker, Nissan’s vice president of North American marketing, hinted at Nissan’s “highly-visible integration” with Star Wars come September.
In his latest statement, Tucker said, “The Star Wars film franchise has pushed the boundaries of technology since the debut of the original episode nearly 40 years ago. Nissan is doing the same with our industry-leading cars, trucks and SUVs -- so it's natural that we join forces.”
Rogue's U.S. sales surged 32 percent to 215,160 vehicles during the first eight months of the year -- Nissan's second-best selling vehicle during the period behind the Altima.
