Electric-vehicle startup Faraday Future appointed longtime Ferrari executive Marco Mattiacci to the post of global chief brand and commercial officer.

Mattiacci has held top management jobs at Ferrari for more than a decade and most recently was managing director of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 racing team. He was president and CEO of Ferrari North America from 2010 to 2014 and helped launch Ferrari in China.

At Faraday Future, he will oversee branding, marketing, communications, distribution, sales and user experience.  Faraday said he will also be on the company's key strategy, product, design and human resources committees.

The EV maker, backed by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, who founded LeTV, an online entertainment company, unveiled a 1,000-hp race car concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in January but has released few other details about its product plans.

In April, the company began construction on a 3-million-square-foot EV plant in North Las Vegas that is planned to employ 4,500 people.
