DETROIT -- Thai Summit America Corp. will break ground later this month on a 44,000-square-foot expansion in Michigan.
The North American subsidiary of Thailand-based Thai Summit Group announced earlier this year it would spend $52.5 million to expand its metal stamping operations in Livingston County.
Only $12.5 million of the investment will go toward building improvements with the other $40 million going to new machinery and equipment.
The expansion, which is expected to be completed in 2017, will create 30 new jobs. Thai Summit said in a statement that it has 50 open positions for die finishers, machine maintenance technicians and administrative roles.
The city of Howell, Mich., a rural town between Lansing and Detroit, in June approved a 12-year property tax abatement toward the project.
The expansion is necessary due to new contracts, the company said in an emailed statement. It currently supplies aluminum stamped parts for Ford Motor Co. and Fiat Chrysler along with commercial truck customers.
