Chevy renews Dream Cruise sponsorship for 3 more years

DETROIT -- Chevrolet has signed another three-year contract as presenting sponsor for the Woodward Dream Cruise, which is taking place Saturday north of Detroit on a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue.Woodward Dream Cruise Inc., the nonprofit that organizes the event, would not disclose the dollar value of the sponsorship deal.Besides General Motors and its Chevy brand, Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group, and Nissan Motor Co. also have scheduled events. Tony Michaels, executive director of the Dream Cruise, said the continued sponsorship -- this is Chevrolet's fourth year -- will help the nonprofit to cut larger checks for participating cities to offset costs associated with cleanup and security.Revenue gathered from sales of merchandise and refreshments will benefit more than 50 local charities.Other sponsors include Autopalooza; Advance Auto Parts; Trico; Plex Systems; Fifth Third Bank; General Motors Certified Service; ACDelco; Eagle One; Law Offices of Bruce Shaw PC; Avery Dennison Corp.; Gateway Classic Cars; The Big Salad; Garrett Popcorn Shops; Lyft; Allied; Prestige Stamping Inc.; Educatius International; Renewal by Andersen, and Advantage Vein Institute.This is the 20th anniversary of the Woodward Dream Cruise. Roughly 1.5 million people are estimated to attend the all-day Saturday event, which features a caravan of 40,000 to 50,000 vehicles cruising through the Detroit suburbs of Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak.Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ-Channel 7 will air coverage of the cruise to a national audience.TV stations belonging to ABC and Scripps will broadcast a one-hour special in 75 U.S. markets.For local coverage of the Dream Cruise from Crain's Detroit Business, an affiliate of Automotive News, click here.
