Automakers tally cost of aggressive mpg goal

Analysts differ on how much costs will rise to pay for technology needed to meet new fuel economy targets outlined by President Obama on Friday. The EPA estimates it will cost about $2,400 a vehicle to improve fuel economy by 5 percent a year from 2017 to 2025.
